Hardbeatnews, PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad (Caribbean), Tues. Feb. 8, 2005: A 24-year-old was shot to death yesterday (07 Feb 2005) while 32 others were stabbed or chopped, as violence took center stage at T&T carnival celebrations.
Nassau Charles, according to the Trinidad Express, was murdered at the back of the North Stand when he was ambushed by a gunman around 9.45 a.m. yesterday (07 Feb 2005) morning.
The others were wounded during Jouvert celebrations in Port of Spain. At Dimanche Gras on Sunday (06 Feb 2005) night, two cars were reportedly stolen and 14 vehicles were broken into, while ten people were held in Port of Spain for robbery.
A new crime plan is expected to be put in place today (08 Feb 2005), by city officials, according to the Express.
The annual celebration wraps up today (08 Feb 2005), ahead of the Lenten season, which begins on Wednesday (09 Feb 2005). Among the bands set to add heat to the already steamy temperatures is Poison, which will include Trini-Americans in its Nemesis section. Nemesis was promoted in New York by the Funsation4 crew and Rhea Smith.
