10 To Vie For Miss Caricom Crown

Hardbeatnews, NEW YORK, N.Y., Fri. Oct. 7, 2005: Ten beautiful young women from across the Caribbean will be vying for the title of Miss Caricom 2005, when the second annual pageant gets underway at the Times Square Marquee Studio on Saturday, October 15 (2005).
According to Monica Sanchez, founder and CEO of the Miss Caricom International Beauty Pageant, the ten participants hail from Trinidad, Guyana, Barbados, Cayman Islands, Belize, Jamaica, St. Vincent, Bahamas, Haiti, Jamaica, Suriname, Grenada and range between the ages of 17-27. But most she said are students between the ages of 19-21. Celebrity judges include, reggae singer Maxi Priest and actor Danny Glover. It will be c-hosted by MC Wassie from Trinidad.

A VIP reception is planned for Friday, Oct. 14 (2005). at the Art Gallery at the State Office Building in Harlem from 6 -10 p.m. On Saturday (08 Oct 2005), the pageant will be preceded by a cocktail reception from 6-8 followed by the show from 8-11p.m.
The reigning “Miss Caricom International” is Thea Duncan from Grenada. Duncan was crowned by the pageant’s celebrity chairman, actor and goodwill ambassador of the UNDP, Danny Glover, last year in Georgetown, Guyana.
