The prime minister of Barbados and other members of Parliament visited the site and a team of specialists were being brought in from Dade County in Florida to assist with the search and, hopefully, rescue of these five persons.
Some residents said they heard rumbling from about 2.00 am but the disaster didn't occur until approximately 4.30 am.
Information received by Caribbean Net News indicates that this family only moved into the complex, which was built on a ledge over the cave, two weeks ago.
Between Sunday night and Monday morning sniffer dogs, which were brought into Barbados from Miami Dade Fire Service to assist in the search for victims of the apartment collapse, detected no signs of life.
Cadaver dogs were then sent in and they detected signs of human remains. The operation has now moved into the recovery phase and although the rescue workers say they are still hopeful that there is some life, they are losing that hope.
Barry Hunte, the Public Relations Officer for the Barbados Police Service said that this is a very challenging operation and with a tropical storm expected to reach Barbados by 1:00 pm Monday (27 Aug 2007), it adds to the challenge. However contingency plans are in place to meet the challenges as they anticipate water to enter and rise in the cave as the storm approaches.
The prime minister has said that he will do whatever he can to ensure whatever is needed to assist with either rescue or recovery, is put in place and all pertinent resources made available.
